There’s a new great magazine in town : Elephant, The art & visual culture magazine. Wow, it’s been a while since i enjoyed a magazine this much. I devoured it from page one to page 204 ( yes, it’s a big one ).

It’s an unpretentious, non pseudo-intellectual, with interesting articles to read, not just a bunch pretty images grouped toguether, printed in fine papers. This magazine has something to say, and it says it very well.
It’s divided in 5 sections, Meetings – interviews with experienced people in the field, work analysis; Research – forecasts, movements, styles; Studio Visits; Economies & Cities.

I loved the insight & research presented throughout the whole magazine, the language style used is very refreshing, the editorial – why start a magazine? – is in itself a critic manifesto, so very inspiring.
“A Magazine is like a party in print.”
-Marc Valli

Besides the great content, the graphic/editorial design is fresh and classic at the same time, filled with typographic details.
I wish i had a negative/critical thing to say, nothing is 100% perfect, but i just can’t see one right now. Oh, wait, i rebembered one bad thing : there’s only 4 issues per year.

“A magazine is a place for dialogue, questioning, experimenting, ranting, name-dropping, arguing, a place or flattery and iconoclasm.” / ” Why do it? Why put so much effort into those few seconds of light and speed and balance and beauty? I suppose in order to try to capture the essence of an instant. Long live this moment, and the next. Long live this wave, and the next wave, and the next wave. Nothing compares to waking up, feeling you can’t wait to get back in the water.”

Happy weekend,
Happy readings
