Trend alert : Collections, part I

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Well, i’ve been researching and collecting images of…collections.
This is a collection of collections.
It’s a big trend nowadays, have you noticed? It’s everywhere !
/

Bem, tenho andado a pesquisar e a recolher …coleccções.
Fui fazendo uma colecção de colecções.
É uma tendência que veio para ficar, existem cada vez mais, por todo o lado, já repararam?

What i like most about this is how ordinary objects suddenly look so beautiful and intriging, grouped together. They become more important, with more power! Some are grouped by color, others by textures or concepts.
Organized freaks, collectors of beautiful things, color coordinating geeks? Why people collect things?

This is just trend alert, part I, more collections to come, stay tuned  :)

Everyday life interiours

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

There’s definitely new trend regarding interiours that has been growing more and more: The ‘ let´s show the homes as they are’ feel, no styling, no cleaning, just the homes as they trully are, homes with real people and their everyday life. Is a bit like ‘reality t.v.’ but in interiours. It all started with The Selby, a huge success, now in bookstores. It´s a reflection that people got a bit tired the dreamy, unrealistic houses featured in magazines and books.

There’s also Apartamento Magazine, the so called  post-materialist interiors magazine. It´s raw, filled with naked truth ( or at least it seams that way ), it´s an interiours manifesto in itself. It’s beautifully designed, in every little detail.

Today, Holly of Decor8 was talking about the gap between the interiour magazines imagery and the reality of most of our homes, specially regarding a specific style from a country or city.

Most of us ( interiour design geeks and freaks, eye candy consumers , addited to these images ), sometimes forget that not every house in Sweden, for example, is perfectly decorated nor everyone is born with the sense of style. It´s easy to think otherwise if we’ve never been there, with all the overwhelming images that we see all the time in blogs, magazines and books. I for once, love the swedish ( and i’m not refering to ikea) and the french style.

Anyway, this new wave is actually reminding us to forget ‘perfect’ and embrace a more ‘imperfect, real, not thinking to much’ way of homeliving. Don’t get me wrong, i still love my perfectly styled magazines, but this trend is here to give us some balance. Dream vs. Reality.

It’s the home’s soul that matters after all.
